The current owner has owned this 1967 Shelby Cobra Mustang for over 20 yrs. It has had a full nut and bolt rotisserie restoration performed by his shop 14 years ago. The car was built in San Jose California and sold by Marv Tonkin Ford in Portland Oregon. It was bought by a gentleman in Vancouver, Washington for a driver-car going to college. He ordered the car with black exterior paint but when the car came in it was Dark Moss Green. The salesman said take it or leave it, so he purchased the car and took it to a local paint shop to have it painted black. So it ran around for years as being a black car. The current owner did do a DMV title search to find the history of ownership and believes he is the 7th or 8th owner. So here is a quick run down of the car. This car was the 2199th car produced by Shelby American. The close ratio 4-speed transmission is original to the car and is #s matching, clutch is a SACS unit from Germany and the flywheel is of billet steel. The car was originally a hub-cap car but the Magstars were an option. The Magstar in the trunk is an original and has never been on the ground. The Hi-Po engine is date coded correct and has some modifications such as a 20 overbore with Probe Pistons, Eagle H beam rods, a roller rocker top end, and of course mechanical lifters. NO, it does not have valve cover spacers to allow for the roller rockers. The horsepower is approx. 350. Carburator is the 715 CFM. Intake manifold is the original. All of the original internal parts ie, pistons-rods-timing assembly, hatchet counter weight, flywheel and so on will stay with the car.
Rear end is the original 9" with 3:89 gears but the current owner did add a traction loc to it. Again, he has all the original parts.
Exhaust system is not original and has Magnaflow mufflers, tips are original but re-chromed. All of the chrome ie: door handles, front and rear bumpers etc. are OEM not aftermarket. Rear seat upholstery is original.
Extensive use of Dynamat through out, doors shut like a Caddy, no rattles or squeaks.
Factory AM radio was replaced with a Factory AM-FM and was rebuilt as was the original speaker.
The inboard high beams are a rare bird. You will find that they are 100 watt spots. Shelby let only a few of these out into the U.S market and they had to wire a special fused relay in line or the light switch would not last but a few minutes if that, the back side of the lamps say "Aircraft Landing". Take note, his understanding is that most if not all Shelby "notch backs" sent to Mexico were equipped with these type of lights.
Koni shocks are fitted on all 4 corners. The rear shoes are fitted with Porterfield R4 race compound and same with the front pads. The upper A arms have the ' SHELBY DROP' manufactured by the current owner's shop. The front springs are from Eibach and are a variable rate spring, the harder you push, the better it likes it. Rate is 390- 650 lbs.
Cons: The windshield is not correct for the car, tires have excellent tread and sidewalls show no cracking or checking but they are hard as a rock. The pics will show you that the exhaust system is not correct. Better, but not correct.
