Ferrari introduced the Pininfarina-designed F355 as a coupe for 1995 to replace the 348, and the range later grew to include Spider and GTS variants. Buyers and road testers unanimously agreed it was a major improvement over its predecessor. Ferrari made a Formula 1-style automatic transmission available for the 1998 model year, and F355 production ended after 1999. It was replaced by the 360 Modena.
