This is likely the only known experimental 1951 Indian Chief to have ever left the factory. A truly rare and historically significant piece of American motorcycle history.

• Serial Number: C4 3000 BA

• Stamped “EXP” on rear cylinder boss indicating experimental status

• No frame number, consistent with Indian’s process for experimental bikes

• Frame features 1952–1953 design elements, not typical of standard 1951 models

• Includes many hand-fabricated parts made by Indian but never put into production due to financial issues at the time

Mechanical & Restoration Highlights:

• Full frame-off restoration completed

• Engine cases split, crank checked, rod and main bearings inspected

• Crankshaft re-trued, and motor/trans rebuilt with new seals and gaskets

• Fitted with period-correct Amal carburetor and 1952–53 style handlebar controls

This is not just another restored Indian — it’s a genuine piece of prototype development history, meticulously rebuilt and preserved. The bike has been stored for over 10 years under a glass case in a living room, pampered and protected.
